Istanbul-Dance Artist, Choreographer, Academic
Canan Yücel Pekiçten is a dance artist, choreographer and academic at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Contemporary Dance Department in Istanbul. She has Bachelor, Master, and Proficiency in Arts degrees in dance. Her works were performed in festivals and venues in Utrecht, Vilnius, Gdansk, Gothenburg, New York, Turin, Pamplona, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon and İstanbul. With her performance, she was awarded first prize at the 8th Gdansk Solo Dance Contest. As a dance artist, she collaborates with Turkish and International choreographers and visual artists and with these collaborations participated in several festivals as well as the 58th Venice Biennale and Block Universe in London. She has been granted artist residencies in Saari Residence (Kone Foundation, FI), Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Movement Research (ArtsLink, US), Espace Darja (MA), Tanzhaus NRW (DE), A Corner in the World (TR), Cité Internationale des Arts (FR) and Dansmakers Amsterdam,(BMCT Program, NL). She gave lectures and workshops in different institutions such as Gothenburg University, Accademia Nazionale di Danza Roma, Danscentrum Vast, Teatro Da Voz (Lisbon), 212 Photography Istanbul. Her recent research and creations focus on operas, orientalism, social classes, themes related to femininity and cultural representations.
